iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Using Bootrom Exploit works on iPod touch 4G, iPhone 4 and iPad

Our experienced iPhone hackers at PhoneShopUK have successfully managed to find another bootrom based exploit which can jailbreak all iOS based devices on the latest iOS 4.1 firmware. What this means is that the next jailbreak most probably is going to be based on bootrom exploit which unlike JailbreakMe will enable users to change boot and recovery mode logos among many other things.

Also, the best thing about a low-level bootrom exploit is that Apple wont be able to patch it simply by releasing a new firmware update . Instead, it will require Apple to release a revised hardware version of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad and the iPod touches with new bootroms chips in order to patch the bootrom exploit.

So our new jailbreak should be ready very soon and we can conferm that our NEW iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Bootrom Exploit works on iPod touch 4G, iPhone 4 and iPad !

Sony PlayStation mobile phone

There's no question that gaming on the Android  platform has heretofore been relatively underwhelming, but that looks like it's all about to change. It seems that Sony Ericsson -- a company that has yet to even introduce an Android 2.0 device -- is at work on a project to redefine gaming on Google's mobile platform. We now know (via a trusted source) that the company is actively and heavily developing a brand new gaming platform, ecosystem, and device (possibly alongside Google) which are already in the late stages of planning. And we've got the goods on it.

Here's what we can tell you about the hardware: if you're a gaming fan, this is exactly the kind of phone you've been waiting for. The device is described as cross between the Samsung Captivate and the PSP Go -- in other words, it's a landscape slider with game controls in place of the typical QWERTY keyboard. The D-pad is here, but instead of the small joystick, the device will have what was described as a "long touch pad" for analog controls, along with standard PSP buttons and shoulder buttons. The phone has a large display, described as being between 3.7 and 4.1 inches with WVGA or better resolution, a 5 megapixel camera that we're told might not be final, and it'll likely have a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU on board. The phone is mostly black with some silver highlights, and the gamepad area is white / silver in color.

Apparently it's currently branded as a Xperia device, but it looks like it will carry PlayStation branding as well. Those who've seen the phone say it looks "pretty damn sexy." The mockup above probably doesn't do the actual hardware justice, but it should give you an idea of what you'll be dealing with.  On the software side, it looks like the device will be running Gingerbread (Android 3.0) with a phone-specific skin, and there will be a new area of the Android Market specifically for the games. That content will be initially accessible only by the halo device, but from the sounds of things, these titles might be made available to other Android phones if their specs and button layouts meet requirements.

Games will be graphically in the range of PSX or PSP games, meaning true 3D gaming is headed to Android. Titles currently being shown off seem to be focused around some older PSX as well as new PSP offerings, with God of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and LittleBigPlanet possibly on tap, and future plans for titles which incorporate augmented reality features.

In terms of release, it's possible that the phone and ecosystem could be introduced as early as October of this year, but we have yet to confirm.

Right now we're working on getting even more detail about the phone and partnership, but we can tell you now that this is not a random rumor -- we have reason to believe that what we've heard and seen is real and coming to market. It makes perfect sense in a way -- Google gets a much-needed push into the gaming and entertainment space for Android, while Sony (via its partnership with Ericsson) finally delivers the PlayStation phone users have been wanting.

We see it as a major win for both companies and the consumer... and we always need another distraction. Stay tuned to this space for updates as we get them, and in the meantime, start socking away the pennies.

Apple Releases iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G

Apple today has released iOS 4.0.1 in a bid to fix the reception issue which has been plaguing iPhone 4 users since its launch last month. This new update addresses the reception issue which is experienced which the phone is tightly griped in the left hand.

iOS 4.0.1 is fully supported on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. iPhone 3G is also supported but the users are officially unable to do multitasking and wallpapers unless you know where to look for it. An iPad version of iOS 4 is also expected to be released by fall 2010.

To update to iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone, all you need to do is to connect your iPhone with your computer via USB and start iTunes.

Note: Except for iPhone 4, all iPhone jailbreakers and unlockers are highly recommended to stay away from this release. This release contains new baseband 05.13.05 which will not work with ultrasn0w 0.93. If you rely on an unlock and updated to this firmware now, you will lose your unlock for God knows how long. iMovie Ported to iPhone 3GS, iOS 4

Yes! PhoneShopUK have got iMovie, which is an iPhone 4 exclusive app running almost perfectly on the iPhone 3GS. You must be both on iOS 4.0 and Jailbroken to use iMove on your 3Gs.

The iPhone 3GS is fast, and capable enough to run iMovie. It is just that Apple wants us all to purchase the new iPhone 4 by saying that iPhone 3GS’ hardware is not good enough for this stuff.

Changing the string for front facing camera to false will make the app run on any jailbroken iPhone and iPod touch as long as it is running iOS 4. You can also run it on non-iOS 4 devices i.e. devices running the old 3.1.3 or 3.1.2 firmware by changing the minimum system version string.

You can download iMovie for 3Gs 4.0 using the links below:

iPhone 4G HD - Comming 18th June!

iPhone 4G HD - iPhone 4.0 and iPhone 3.1.3 Unlock Release Confirmed for this Month!

We have been hearing about this one aren’t we? but what we have now is final confirmation. Full carrier unlocks for iPhone OS 3.1.3, and iPhone OS 4.0 will be released this month once Apple has released both the final version of iPhone OS 4, and the next iPhone 4G / HD.

WWDC 10 is only about 12 hours away now where Apple will unveil the next iPhone and what we have now is even more pictures leaked from Korea, showing the back panel, and other parts of the white model (video here) of the next-gen iPhone. The back panel case is similar to all the previous leaks that we have seen so far. Maybe someone in China, Vietnam or Korean region have got loads of these parts and they are selling it off to make loads of money right before the official announcement by Jobs.

iPad UK Release - Jail Break and get all the Apps for FREE!

The iPad has just had its UK release. Even if you've held off jailbreaking your other iPhone OS devices, the iPad's substantially faster hardware and difficult-to-define "3rd device" role make the best case yet for jailbreaking. A user- and developer-updated compatibility list will help you see what's safe to install on your iPad, and I'll list our favorite apps and extensions for your freshly jailbroken device.

Send us your standard Apple iPad and we will jailbreak, patch your mobile instalation file (so you can get all apps for free) and add the Cydia application. Then send it Recorded Special delivery back to your door.

Apple's App Store has become notorious for its restrictive and often arbitrary decisions about what does and doesn't make it into the store. We've seen many pieces of quality software get denied or kicked out of the App Store, sometimes for unclear or unknown reasons.  Many of these, however, have subsequently made their way into Cydia, the jailbroken app installer (note that the App Store works just fine on jailbroken devices, too). GV Mobile, a great interface for Google Voice, Dashboard, a clone of Mac OS X's Dashboard for iPad, and Wifi Sync, a paid application for performing iTunes syncs over Wi-Fi, are just a few examples. And there are plenty more programs and extensions that are available in Cydia that have never even been submitted to the App Store.  Besides these examples of nixed software, the world of jailbreaking also offers a multitude of tweaks that aren't available to the user on a normal iDevice, like changing system sounds or interface elements. While a much higher proportion of the software available through Cydia is free compared to what you'll find on the App Store, it does also contain paid software.

Many people express concern about jailbreaking their iPhones because they don't want to sacrifice stability or speed on their phones. While the vast majority of jailbreak software is perfectly stable, it's true that this software doesn't go through the same level of grueling testing to which Apple subjects software that makes it into the App Store. And software that lets you run 3rd-party programs in the background, otherwise change the interface, and so forth, can have effects on your device's performance, so I can understand why some people are reticent about this.

However, the iPad's processor and memory are substantially more powerful than that of the current iPhones and iPod Touches. Its hardware makes it much better suited to effective multitasking, and its role in most peoples' workflow makes a good for jailbreaking, both because jailbreaking makes it more useful, and because it simply won't be used the same way as your phone.

If jailbreaking means accepting a slightly lower standard of stability (which is debatable to begin with), it just isn't as crucial as on your phone. After all, the iPad is a device begging to be treated more like a computer than a phone, and jailbreaking makes that much more possible than Apple's approved software possibly can.

I for one am willing to sacrifice a little polish for functionality on the iPad.

It is worth noting, however, that multitasking will come to the iPad with Apple's blessing, albeit in a limited form, with this fall's release of iPhone OS 4.

Now, because of the nature of the software available through Cydia, it's important to remember that not everything originally written for iPhone/iPod Touch works with the iPad.

Be sure to consult the Google Docs spreadsheet created by iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd, before you install anything through Cydia. If you stick to this list, you should be safe. And if you like to live dangerously, remember that you can always restore and be right back where you started if need be (and don't forget to make a note in the Google Doc about what happened!). We’ve set up a page on our Wiki to keep track of compatible apps, too.
Jailbreak Favorites

My favorite jailbreak programs right now (on both iPhone and iPad) are Notifier, a little extension that puts icons in your status bar for new email, messages, etc, SBSettings, a little panel of useful controls that slides down from the status bar, even within other apps, and Backgrounder (source code), so you can listen to Pandora while you draft an email (for instance).

Another one of particular interest to iPad users is called FullForce, and is a convenient, packaged implementation of an elaborate .plist hack (via Gizmodo) that lets iPhone apps format themselves for the iPad's screen without pixel doubling. It isn't perfect, but works spectacularly for many apps, including Facebook and the New York Times.

These programs don’t all have sites of their own, but you can find them in Cydia on your jailbroken iDevice, along with description and screenshots.

For those of you planning to jailbreak, once you do, don't forget to back up your SHSH ‘blobs,’ the hashes iTunes checks when you restore, so you can restore to this jailbreakable version of the OS even after Apple updates it, closes the jailbreak vulnerability, and stops signing restores of OS 3.2. This way, if you ever need/want to restore to an earlier version of the OS, it’s straightforward to trick iTunes with the backed up ‘blobs.’ Saurik, famed in the jailbreak community for creating Cydia, has a good explanation along with detailed instructions on doing this on his site.

Once you're jailbroken, it's easiest just to back them up through Cydia. Alternatively, this method, using a program called Firmware Umbrella, works whether or not you are jailbroken, and is a good idea if you haven't yet but think you might want to in the future.

    History of the Mobile Phone

The mobile phone, also known as cellular phone, has become one of the most successful inventions in the 20th century. In the late 90s, mobile phones became one of the major communication devices. The first commercial mobile phone system started in 1979 in Japan. According to Cellular Online, the global mobile phone subscribers in 2003 are around 1.52 billion, which is about 20 percent of the current world population. This figure showed the success of the mobile phone industries. In about 20 years' time, this technology conquered the global and became a demand for the majority of people in the world. It provided communication for people no matter anywhere and anytime.

Mobile phones were meant to be a device which enables users to have the ease on telecommunication freely wherever they want. But in the late 90’s, SMS (Short Message Service), a new technology was brought out. SMS is a transmission of short text message from mobile phones to mobile phones. This became a revolution making mobile phones to develop into a device that not only allows simple voice to voice telecommunication. Mobile phone now not only became an entertainment device (featuring functions such as camera, FM and MP3 players etc) but also allowing users to access through internet, personal digital assistant (PDA) functions and also having video conference using the latest 3G network. Someday, mobile phones might be able to replace computers.

From the early stages of analog cellular to now the latest 3G mobile phone system, the mobile phone developed rapidly in the past 20 years. Each stage of development provided a big improve to the industries. From early stages of voice to voice simple communication, to the WAP and GPRS internet connection and now the high speed internet connection through the internet, it showed that mobile phones is one of the leading technology in the high technology industry. The convenience brought by this technology indeed changed the life of many people and society. Many things such as banking, gathering information such as reports or latest news, control the share market via GPRS etc are what the technology helped to improve and ease the life of people. Japan is the country which the mobile phone technology develops the fastest in the world. Before the 3G technology was launched in other countries, the Japanese had already mastered the technology. A discussion about the fast development of mobile phone industry Japan will be included in the essay.

Studies believed that a new mobile phone network system, 4G will be in the market in the nearby future. 4G, or known as the fourth generation mobile is a whole new radio access network. Stronger and clearer signals and higher speed (broadband speed, 100 times faster than the 3G connection) connection through the internet are the highlights of the 4G technology. Although the 3G technology had only been promoted no long ago, this new technology is now under development stage and believed to be put out in the market in year 2010. It is believed that the 4G will be a big leap and a whole new revolution for the mobile phone industry and the users.

Along with the development of mobile phones, many subsidiary technology developed by the mobile phone companies were also developed and influencing other products such as Bluetooth, Symbian (an operating system (OS) specially designed for mobile phones) and some software companies that designs software for the Symbian OS. These technologies improved the interactive among mobile phones and the users. It provided a much convenience and wider usage for the mobile phone users. More and more companies now are trying to gain a share in the mobile phone market. Many big companies which are developing PDA OS such as Window CE (Pocket PC), PALM and Linux are also engaging their OS with mobile phones functions. This proved that the mobile phone industry is indeed a good market to invest in. The competition in the market is also another reason causing the mobile phone industry to develop in such a short time.

    New Incredible DROID Ads

Two new commercials have emerged for the Motorola 'DROID', along with a new ad for another high-end Android-based mobile phone the operator launched on its airwaves, the 'DROID Incredible' by HTC.

The video ads for the DROID by Motorola are mainly focused on the applications that are available for the device from the Android Market. Of course, DROID is a mobile phone that does offer access and support for a wide range of software solutions available for download from the app portal. While the first commercials were focused on the phone, the new ones bring the Android platform to the front, showing that the carrier is determined to support the OS in its attempt to conquer the market (check on the second and the third videos below to learn more).

For what it's worth, the DROID by Motorola is already popular among users, and id requires no further presentation, yet one cannot say the same about the DROID Incredible. Although the phone registers high demand at Verizon, with stock problems reported ever since it got launched at the carrier, there are still features that customers do not know, and the newly spotted video ad is meant to shed some light on one of them.

The DROID Incredible is powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, which provides both speed and raw power to users. Take a look at the first video embedded below to see what Verizon has to say on the matter. The handset can be seen in this commercial, unlike the previous one, which only named it, and enthusiasts will certainly remember the first DROID Does ads when looking at it. Hopefully, the carrier will be able to resolve the current stock issues it has with the device, so that its customers can benefit to the full from the speed it delivers.

Mobile phones actually protect you from brain cancer!

Mobile users have a lower risk of developing brain cancers than non-mobile users, a ten-year €19m study by the UN has shown. But the epidemiologists are doubtful about the results, which aren't alarmist enough, and have called for additional research.

The study by the Interphone International Study Group, which began in 2000, was supervised by the UN's WHO arm and conducted in 13 countries. Researchers examined the occurrence of four kinds of tumours: two brain tumours (glioma and meningioma), tumours of the acoustic nerve (schwannoma) and cancer of the parotid gland. Regular mobile phone users saw a lower chance of developing brain tumours, with relative risk ratios (ORs) of 0.81 for glioma and 0.79 for meningioma.
"ORs were < 1.0 for all deciles of lifetime number of phone calls and nine deciles of cumulative call time," says the WHO in a summary. The highest the team could find occured in just one decile, where the hazard ratio for developing glioma tumours was 1.40. This is statistically insignificant: a relative risk ratio of less than two is not considered worthy of attention, the National Cancer Institute said in 1994, and an RR of 3.0 or higher is usually necessary.

Successive studies have shown no association between mobile use and cancer, an outlier being a Swedish researcher who found no link for most groups, but RRs of 5.2 for under 20s - only with a very small sample.

    End of story, then?

    You must be joking.

The group rubbishes its own work saying that lower odds may reflect "participation bias or other methodological limitations", which you think they might have worked on over ten years. "Biases and errors limit the strength of the conclusions that can be drawn from these analyses", they insist.
Meanwhile Christopher Wild, director of the UN's cancer quango the International Agency for Research on Cancer, made what sounds like a bid for permanent employment.

"An increased risk of brain cancer is not established from the data from Interphone," he admitted. "However, observations at the highest level of cumulative call time and the changing patterns of mobile phone use since the period studied by Interphone, particularly in young people, mean that further investigation of mobile phone use and brain cancer risk is merited."

Of course. They need to torture the numbers until they confess.

The WHO acknowledges that newer and better technology means lower RF emissions, as does "the increasing use of texting and hands-free operations that keep the phone away from the head".
